Professional ceramic coating costs $1,200 to $2,800 for most cars. The two things that move the number are how long the coating is rated to last and how much paint correction the finish needs before it goes on. Our own prices run $799.99 to $2,399.99 depending on vehicle size and coating length, and they are published below instead of quoted after an inspection.
I'm a certified SunCoat USA installer working out of Woodland Hills, I'm rated 5.0 across 35 Google reviews, and the coatings I install at five and ten years get registered to your vehicle's CARFAX record. So when I say a number below, it's a number I actually charge, not a number I researched. Brace yourself anyway. Everybody does.

What you're actually paying for
Almost none of it is the bottle. As one industry price guide puts it, most of the bill is labor, not liquid: the paint has to be washed, chemically decontaminated and usually machine polished before the coating is allowed anywhere near it. That's most of a working day on a sedan, and longer on anything bigger.
This is why two quotes for "a ceramic coating" can differ by a thousand dollars and both be honest. One is a day of correction with a coating at the end. The other is a wash and a wipe-on. Same two words, wildly different job, and the cheap one seals your swirl marks under a hard clear layer where they now live permanently, rent free, visible in every car park for years.
It's also why the cheap end of the market exists. Entry packages are quoted at $350 to $1,100, with a typical start around $650. At the bottom of that range, the correction is not in there. It cannot be.

Our prices, by size and by year
These come straight out of our booking system, so they're the same numbers you'd see at checkout. Every package includes the decontamination wash, iron removal, clay and the correction the finish needs.

You can stop bracing now. For comparison, a professional coating is generally quoted at $800 to $1,500, and a multi-layer system at $1,500 to $2,500 and up. Nationally the whole service averages $1,200 to $2,800. If you came in having already decided this was a three-thousand-dollar conversation, that's the industry's fault, not yours.

How long a coating really lasts
The year on the box is a ceiling, not a promise, and it assumes the car gets washed properly. A coated car put through an automatic wash every fortnight will not see year five, whatever the label says. A coating can't out-argue a spinning brush.
The full version of this, including what actually kills a coating early, is in how long a ceramic coating really lasts.

Is a coating worth the money?
It depends entirely on how you wash the car. A coating makes a well-kept car much easier to keep and makes a neglected car look expensive for about eight months. It's a gloss and cleaning upgrade with real chemical resistance, not a force field, and anyone selling it as scratch-proof is selling you something else.
The resale angle is the one people underrate: at five and ten years the coating is on the vehicle's CARFAX record, which is documentation a buyer can see. Three years from now, some stranger squinting at your history report finds out you looked after it. That's a strange thing to enjoy, and I enjoy it.
There's a longer answer to this one, including the part most of the internet skips: who should walk away. Every article ranking for this question is published by somebody who sells coatings, which makes "yes" a fairly predictable conclusion. I wrote the version with the no in it - who a coating suits, who should skip one, what 9H hardness actually measures, and why a failing clear coat is the one case where this service cannot help you.

Which coating is the best one?
Brand matters less than the hands applying it, which is an unsatisfying answer that happens to be true. A mid-tier coating over properly corrected paint outlasts a flagship product rushed onto a dirty panel every single time. You can spend an evening deep in forum threads comparing silica percentages, and I'd gently suggest that evening is gone and it isn't coming back.
We install SunCoat USA, which runs a formal installer certification and a warranty programme that follows the car rather than the shop. That last part is the bit worth caring about.
Ceramic coating vs paint protection film
Different jobs. Film is a physical layer that takes rock chips for you and costs several times more. Coating is a chemical layer that handles gloss, contamination and washing, and does nothing about a stone off the freeway.
Most people who ask this want the front end filmed and the rest of the car coated. That's usually the right answer, and it's why the two get sold together rather than against each other. Everyone wants to know which one wins. Nobody wants to hear "both, in different places", which is a shame, because that's the answer.
What it costs to keep one alive
Coated paint still wants washing, just less often and with far less effort. The cheapest way to waste a coating is to protect it by running it through an automatic wash, which is roughly flossing with barbed wire. Those spinning brushes have touched four hundred filthy cars this week and they remember every one.
Cars on one of our maintenance plans also keep their SunCoat warranty inspections on schedule, which nobody thinks about until the day they need the warranty.

What we charge, and why the number is on the page
Our ten year package tops out at $2,399.99 on a truck, which sits inside the national band rather than under it. I'm not going to pretend I'm half the price of everyone else, because I'm not, and a page that claims that is usually hiding what it left out of the job.
What's different is that the number is on the page at all. Nearly every competing quote arrives after an inspection, which is a fine way to run a business and a miserable way to plan one. There's also no unit, no rent, no front desk and nobody in a polo shirt whose whole job is telling you I'll be right with you. I do every job start to finish, so what you're paying for is the coating and my day, and that's the whole list.
The trade you're making is scheduling. One person means fewer slots, and a ten year coating eats most of a day, so the calendar fills further out than either of us would like. That's the honest cost of the number being what it is. Cheaper, and you wait.

Questions people actually ask
How much does ceramic coating cost for a car?
Nationally it averages $1,200 to $2,800 depending on vehicle size, how long the coating is rated for, and how much paint correction the finish needs first. Our published prices run $799.99 to $2,399.99, and the table above shows the live figure for each size.
Why is ceramic coating so expensive?
Because you are mostly buying hours, not liquid. The paint has to be washed, chemically decontaminated and usually machine polished before the coating goes on, which is most of a working day on a sedan and longer on anything bigger.
Is a cheap ceramic coating worth it?
A cheap quote usually means the paint correction was skipped. Coating over swirls seals the swirls in under a hard clear layer, so the car keeps its scratches and you paid to lock them there. Ask what correction is included before you compare two prices.
How much is a 10 year ceramic coating?
Multi-layer professional systems are generally quoted from $1,500 upward, and the national average across all coatings is $1,200 to $2,800. Ours is $1,999.99 to $2,399.99 by vehicle size, warrantied through SunCoat USA and registered to your vehicle's CARFAX record.
Does ceramic coating include paint correction?
It should, and ours does. Every package includes a decontamination wash, iron removal, clay, and the correction the finish needs before anything gets coated. A coating applied over unprepared paint is the single most common way this service goes wrong.
Is a mobile coating cheaper than a shop?
Not automatically, and be wary of anyone promising it is. Fuel, drive time and setup all get built into a mobile rate. What you save is the half-day of your life spent dropping a car off and getting back to it.

Getting a real number for your car
Every price above is live and every one is per vehicle size, so the only thing left to settle is what condition your paint is in. That's what the walkthrough is for, and it happens before anything starts. Nobody enjoys the bit where a stranger circles their car doing sums, so I say the number out loud, at the car, before a single thing is touched.
The full breakdown, the package contents and the booking link are on the ceramic coating page.
